Special Focus – Growing up poor: Negative sequelae on child development and beyond.

Poverty has direct effects on children as well as mediated effects in their development. This special focus of Perspectives on Early Childhood Psychology and Education (PECPE) invites manuscripts that explore the negative sequelae of poverty as it is related to impaired mental, emotional, and behavioral development; poor language and cognitive skills; limited academic achievement and educational attainment; as well as poor nutrition and health. Manuscripts should address the dynamic and developmental processes through which poverty operates. Although understanding the cumulative effects of poverty are important, how consequences at one stage in a child’s development can hinder development at a later stage should be emphasized. Manuscripts should be original work not currently submitted for publication to other journals. Authors must follow the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Sixth Edition). Manuscripts may not exceed 35 double-spaced pages in length, including the cover page, abstract, references, tables, and figures. Avoid including any identifying author information in the text. Selection of manuscripts is based on blind peer review. Include a cover page with the following information: the title of article, author(s) full name(s), title(s), institution or professional affiliations, and mailing and email address of primary author. The cover page will not be sent to reviewers.
