The Committee on Children, Youth and Families of the American Psychological Association is seeking individuals to join a workgroup to assist committee members in the development of a policy guide that will address racial/ethnic disparities in youth mental health. The committee is specifically looking for advocates and researchers with expertise with African-American, Latino/Hispanic, Indian American, and Asian American populations, to join the workgroup.

About the Practitioner Reference Guide:

The content of the guide will be based on a report titled, “Disparities in child and adolescent mental health and mental health services in the U.S.,” that was commissioned by the William T. Grant Foundation 2015. The content will also be based on results from several qualitative interviews with policymakers. Funding for the development of the guide is provided by a NIMHD-funded Transdisciplinary Center on Health Disparities.

Participation of workgroup members will include the following:

  • Participating in three, 1-2 hour telephone calls between January 2017 and March 2017
  • Reviewing drafts of the policy guide between telephone calls
  • Providing verbal and written feedback on the content, wording, and format of drafts of the policy guide during telephone calls
  • Writing sections of the guide based on content expertise, as needed, between telephone calls
  • Participation may include assisting with the development and presentation of a webinar in the spring of 2017.
  • An honorarium of $200 will be provided to each workgroup member
