General Description: The Postdoctoral Fellowship in the School Psychology Program at the University of South Florida aims to provide supervised postdoctoral experiences in teaching and research. This Fellowship will provide the opportunity to gain experience and mentoring in teaching graduate level courses and providing clinical supervision for practica in the APA-Accredited/NASP Approved School Psychology Program. Potential courses to be taught include those in the area of academic assessment and intervention, instructional design, behavior theory and learning, school- based practica, and possibly seminars that align with the postdoctoral fellow’s areas of interest and expertise. In addition, the Fellowship will provide the opportunity to participate in self-selected research projects and initiatives both within the School Psychology Program and with other University of South Florida research projects.

The School Psychology Program includes five core faculty members and offers degree programs at the Ed.S. and Ph.D. levels. The program reflects a scientist-practitioner training philosophy in preparing school psychologists who emphasize evidence-based practices within an ecological problem-solving framework. The program has a strong tradition of inquiry and scholarship, quality teaching and mentoring, commitment to diversity, and service to colleagues within the College, University, P-12 schools, and professional associations. The School Psychology Program receives approximately $20 million in funding each year (IES, SAMHSA, U.S. Department of Education, Florida Department of Education). Faculty in the School Psychology Program direct and/or collaborate with research institutes, projects and initiatives in the following areas:

  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports, Early Warning Systems, Program Evaluation- Institute for School Reform
  • Positive Behavior Supports, Florida AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) – Florida Center for Inclusive Communities, College of Behavioral and Community Sciences
  • Pediatric School Psychology, including collaborating with faculty in the USF Morsani College of Medicine, All Children’s Hospital, and other community agencies
  • School Mental Health Services Partnership, including innovations in positive psychology and supporting adolescents in accelerated curricula- Hillsborough County Public Schools
  • Vulnerable and At-Risk Students: Improving Trajectories for Youth—Center for Autism and Related Disabilities

Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctoral Degree in School Psychology or Related Area
  • Strong desire to gain advanced experience in teaching and research in a Research I University
  • Interest in participating in research projects in one or more of the areas identified above
  • Interest in pursuing a career in a university setting
  • Training/expertise in academic assessment and interventions, within a problem-solving framework for school psychology service delivery
