In accordance with Association Rule 30.8, the Board of Professional Affairs (BPA), in collaboration with the Committee on Professional Practice and Standards (COPPS), seeks public and member comments on proposed Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Military Service Members, Veterans, and their Families which are currently under development by a Working Group composed of COPPS members and other subject matter experts.  The purpose of these guidelines is to “provide recommendations for psychologists who provide services to SMVF outside of Veterans Health Administration or U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) facilities.” In addition, these guidelines aim to “highlight the main issues that are unique to this particular population that would not necessarily also be of consideration in the civilian population. The successful application of these guidelines involves use of clinical judgment, recognition of one’s own scope of practice, and an understanding of the extent to which military status is part of an individual’s identity or relevant to the individual’s need for psychological care.” Comments will be accepted for a 60-day period ending on June 7, 2019.
