The American Arab, Middle Eastern, and North African Psychological Association (AMENA-Psy) is hosting our first-ever AMENA-Psy Conference on Saturday, September 26, 2020. The conference will be held virtually beginning at 12pm Eastern/9am Pacific and ending at 5pm Eastern/2pm Pacific TimeWe welcome proposals from researchers, practitioners, and students from a diversity of backgrounds, and with work concentrating on a MENA and non-MENA people and related topics, including decolonization, trauma, refugees, and immigrants.

The theme of the conference this year is Coming Together: Shaping and Nurturing a Strong Future for AMENA-Psy. The conference theme refers to the development of community among colleagues along with the emergence of AMENA-Psy and the field of MENA American Psychology as a whole. Proposals addressing our identities as communities of MENA descent in North America, visibility and recognition as a distinct ethnic group, experiences of ethnic oppression, social justice/advocacy work, culturally-informed practice or pedagogy, and MENA-inclusive curricula or training will be especially welcome. Our conference seeks to expand the dialogue of MENA Psychology, and therefore we envision this conference as an opportunity to broaden the conversation among mental health clinicians/researchers/students who identify as MENA and/or who concentrate their work on MENA-related topics and those who do not.

Additionally, we encourage students and researchers at an early phase in their research to submit proposals for their work-in-progress. We hope to create a space for the healthy exchange of ideas that will facilitate future research on, among and informed by MENA people and and that develops our understanding of MENA communities and relevant subject matter.

We are excited to invite AMENA-Psy members and non-members from all backgrounds to join us!
