The College of Education’s Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies is seeking a full-time Research Specialist to serve as the primary interventionist and recruitment specialist for a federally-funded study in youth with type 1 diabetes. A primary role for this position will involve delivering family support and sleep interventions over a 3-month period, conducting complex assessments in the context of a research study to evaluate project outcomes, and collaborating on dissemination efforts including publications and conference presentations. It is expected that this individual will carry a caseload of approximately 12 participants, with a target of having an average 3-4 new participants per month. This person will also lead recruitment efforts, be the primary person to consent participants, and may have supervisory responsibilities. As part of this position, the individual will perform a variety of duties involved in the collection, compilation, documentation, and interpretation of behavioral intervention and research data. The individual will also be expected to have several off-site appointments each week to conduct polysomnography (PSG) or complete evaluation visits at minor participants’ homes during non-school hours or close to their bedtimes. Although the intervention and lab-based data collection typically occur during business hours or late afternoons, the individual must regularly be available multiple evenings/later hours per week and some weekends to accommodate participants’ schedules and collaborate on scholarly activities. This position will require travel to participants’ homes to complete sleep studies or study visits.

The successful candidate should be self-motivated and enjoys a fast-paced environment, recognizes the differences between clinical and research activities, executes extreme attention to detail, has the ability to work well independently and as part of a team, possesses comfort with behavioral health matters and complex family environments, and has a desire to disseminate information about the study to communities of interest.  A background or interest in sleep, family systems, mental health, and/or disease self-management is particularly useful.

Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance plans; life insurance and disability programs; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; state and optional retirement plans; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
