Division 16 (School Psychology) of the American Psychological Association is accepting nominations for an Editor for the Book Series “Applying Psychology in the Schools.” The successful candidate should be available to start the position in January 2025.

APA Books and Division 16 (School Psychology) have partnered to produce the “Applying Psychology in the Schools” Book Series. The mission of this series is to increase the visibility of the science, practice, and policy for children and adolescents in schools and communities. The result has been a strong collection of scholarly work that appeals not only to psychologists, but also to individuals from all fields who have reason to seek and use psychological science and practice to improve schools and communities in the US and aboard. As the premier publishing house in psychology, APA Books offers unparalleled opportunity for marketing authors’ work and recognizing and rewarding their contributions to the field worldwide.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is knowledgeable in the broad domains of the psychology of education and services for children and adolescents in school settings. Individuals who have experience with editing roles are encouraged to apply.  The primary responsibilities will include soliciting books, supporting authors in the proposal process, and maintaining a strong identity within the field of school psychology through direct and frequent communication with Division 16’s Vice President of Publications and Communications (currently Dr. Julia Ogg).  The ideal candidate will have the ability to create a vision for the book series and will be supported to network with other editors of book series in premier publishing houses and journals. APA Division 16 values equity, diversity, and inclusion and encourages applications from individuals from underrepresented groups and with marginalized identities, as well as candidates across all stages of their careers. Self-nominations are also strongly encouraged.

The Book Series Editor typically receives 1% of the book sales.  The term of the position is four years.  The deadline for accepting nominations is November 22, 2024, when reviews will begin.

Interested candidates should email: (1) a letter of interest detailing relevant experience, as well as goals for the book series, (2) contact information for three professional references, and, (3) a recent vita to Julia Ogg (jogg@niu.edu)
