The Committee on Early Career Psychologists (CECP) is pleased to invite nominations for the positions of the (1) Education Representative, (2) Governance and Membership Representative, and (3) State, Provincial, and Territorial Psychological Associations (SPTAs) Representative. Committee members will serve a three-year term (2026-2028).
The mission of CECP is to promote the expertise of ECPs and foster leaders with the passion and innovation to advance psychological advocacy, education, practice, and science. CECP seeks to represent the interests and concerns of early career psychologists throughout the APA.
Deadline: January 31, 2025
CECP Strategic Priorities:
- Prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion in every aspect of their work
- Engage in anti-racist work
- Establish and promote leadership training opportunities for ECPs
- Create new opportunities for ECPs to serve in leadership positions
- Elevate the visibility of ECPs and their work
Nominee Qualifications
- APA membership
- Be within 10 years of receipt of your doctoral degree in psychology as of January 1, 2025
- Experience and/or demonstrated commitment to psychology and professional service
Submission Materials
- A statement of interest from the nominee that clearly articulates the representative position the candidate is interested in, the candidate’s qualifications, and fit for the position (no more than 1 page single-spaced, 12-point font).
- A curriculum vitae.
- One letter of recommendation (no more than 1 page single-spaced, 12-point font).
- Nominations from psychologists of all under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Commitments
- Attendance and engagement in quarterly virtual committee meetings.
- Active and ongoing participation in committee work during and between meetings.
- Nominees should expect to contribute a few hours a month to committee work.
- Reviewing applications and selecting winners for CECP specific awards and grants.
- Providing feedback on APA policies, guidelines, and/or resolutions that are relevant to ECP needs and representative position on the committee.
- Actively engage as a CECP liaison or monitor to assigned APA committees, boards, and organizations.
- Participation at APA Spring Consolidated hybrid meeting.
- Planning CECP activities for APA Convention.
Education Representative:
- Represent the ECP education and training community in APA
- Serve as CECP liaison to the Board of Educational Affairs and as the CECP point of contact for relationships with the Education Directorate, APA education and training activities, affiliated groups, and the academic community
- Develop and support projects within APA to promote ECP needs related to education and training
- Promote the activities and initiatives of the Board of Educational Affairs and Education Directorate to the ECPs via the listserv and other avenues
- Work with CECP staff liaison as well as other Committees and entities within APA to promote the interests and initiatives of ECPs in education and training
Governance and Membership Representative:
- Represent the ECP governance and membership community in APA
- Serve as CECP liaison to the Membership Board and advise the board on recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts aimed at early career psychologists
- Serve as point of contact for the membership representatives on all boards and committees within the APA governance structure
- Work closely with the CECP staff liaison to develop activities focused on early career membership and strategies for increasing recruitment, retention, and involvement of early career members
State, Provincial, and Territorial Psychological Associations (SPTAs) Representative:
- Represent CECP in SPTAs activities and initiatives
- Serve as CECP point of contact for SPTAs and related groups within APA
- Develop initiatives and programs within APA that support the needs of ECPs in SPTAs as appropriate
- Promote and support activities, projects, and programs that foster joint membership and participation between the ECP members of APA and SPTAs
- Attend and actively participate in the annual Practice State Leadership Conference (PSLC)
- If requested, help plan and lead ECP activities at PSLC with the help of APA staff
- Participate as a full voting member on the Committee of State Leaders (CSL) as the CECP representative and:
- Participate on at least two sub-Committees of the CSL
- Attend CSL meetings during PSLC
- Serve as the CECP liaison to APA Division 31 (Division on State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Association Affairs); and participate in APA Division 31 Committees and task forces (e.g., the ECP Task Force and the Communications Committee which creates newsletters and manages content on the website)
