In collaboration with Newark Public Schools, Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) is currently implementing the Newark AWARE Project, a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) grant – Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education). The Project aims to build Newark Public Schools capacity to further implement of a comprehensive multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) for student mental health in collaboration with school personnel, community-based providers of behavior health care services, community organizations, families and youth. The project will promote the healthy social and emotional development K-12 grader students and prevent youth violence in Newark schools. The duties of this position to will be to work with Drs. Emily Graybill and Linda Reddy (Principal Investigators, PIs) to support Newark Public Schools MTSS training/professional development (PD), screening and assessment, as well as MTSS delivery.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Leads district and school level needs assessments and offer recommendations for refining existing MTSS implementation components.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the NEWARK-based team on all MTSS trainings/PD and support district-wide implementation of research-based MTSS components (screening, assessments, interventions and supports).
  • Works closely with the PIs and Project Evaluator on all aspects of the project.
  • Will have amble growth opportunities to refine skills in school implementation science and school mental health delivery.
  • Other key tasks include general administrative duties, conducting literature searches, and collecting scientifically and empirically supported relevant data to assist in manuscript, journal article, and conference presentation preparation.
