The University of Arizona, a Carnegie Foundation Research University with “very high research activity” is pleased to announce an opening for an Assistant Professor of Practice in the School Psychology program with a start date of August 2015. This is a one-year appointment with potential for continuation. The program offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree and an Educational Specialist (EdS) degree in School Psychology. The Ph.D. program is accredited by both the American Psychological Association and the National Association of School Psychologists. We are searching for a faculty member to fill a non-tenure track faculty position who shares the College’s commitment to excellent teaching, exceptional service to students and the profession, and quality research.
Responsibilities:
- Teach graduate courses in school psychology, consistent with program and departmental instructional needs
- Provide clinical supervision to graduate students in the school psychology program for both assessment and intervention/therapy field experiences
- Provide staff development and technical assistance to local and state schools and agencies in conjunction with efforts to expand the field of school psychology in the state of Arizona
- Assist with coordination and supervision of student field experiences
- Participate in advising and mentoring students, and serve on graduate-level exam
committees
- Actively participate in school psychology, departmental, and university activities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in School Psychology or a closely related field by time of appointment (anticipated August 2015)
- Evidence of effective teaching in school psychology or related fields
- Certified or eligible for certification as a school psychologist in the State of Arizona
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Arizona
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching graduate-level school psychology and psychology courses
- Experience supervising clinical practicum or school psychology trainees
About the Department:
The program is housed in the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies within the College of Education. The program is growing and is fully committed to playing a key role in addressing the needs of school districts in the surrounding community, as well as impacting the provision of school psychology services on a national and global level. Faculty members engage in applied research that can directly inform practice and address the needs of children, adolescents, school personnel, and policy-makers.
Individuals who apply should be committed to working with faculty members in advancing research and practice in the delivery of evidence-based culturally competent and inclusive school psychology services. This includes the delivery of psychological assessment, consultation, and intervention services that are aimed at supporting student’s mental health, emotional well-being, and fostering supportive learning environments. The program faculty places a high value on collaboration both within the program and across disciplines. Program faculty have ongoing research projects in areas such as school mental health, academic outcomes for children with chronic health conditions, early identification and intervention for childhood emotional and behavioral concerns, bullying and cyberbullying, and juvenile justice, among others. We seek individuals who bring energy, leadership, and a deep commitment to academic excellence, within the scholar-practitioner tradition.
