Position: Assistant Professor of School Psychology (Tenure Track). Candidates for beginning assistant professor to advanced assistant professor are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in school psychology from a NASP-approved and/or APA- accredited program in school psychology
- Commitment to diversity and excellence in graduate preparation programs
- Established record of (or demonstrated ability to establish) a comprehensive and sustained agenda of research, scholarship, and grants in school psychology
- Competence to make major contributions to instruction and supervision of school psychology graduate students and to program development and candidate evaluation.
- Skills to serve as an academic adviser and research mentor for graduate student
- Experience with graduate curriculum standards in school psychology
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students across the college and university
- Potential to provide service to schools, professional associations, and other agencies
- Eligible for certification as a school psychologist and/or licensure as a psychologist in Alabama and commitment to obtain these state credentials if hired
Preferred Qualifications:
- Research, teaching, and service interests that align with one or more of the department’s strengths including, but not limited to, assessment, evaluation, neuroscience, and mental health supports
- Record of external funding for research, teaching, or service activities in universities
- Evidence of success in prior graduate instruction, program development, student mentoring, and dissertation advisement
- Experience with instructional technology applications and distance delivery methods for graduate education
- Successful outreach activities with educational and other agencies and service to national school psychology associations
- Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP)
Responsibilities:
- Teach graduate level courses and practica/internships in school psychology and related programs within the department
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive agenda of research and scholarship in school psychology
- Contribute to instructional and other program activities in the on-campus program in school psychology, as well as a new distance learning (hybrid) program
- Provide effective mentorship to promote graduate students’ professional competence, skill development, and research, including doctoral dissertations
- Collaborate in ongoing development, evaluation, and improvement of the School Psychology Program
- Contribute to initiatives and activities in the department and college
- Provide leadership in service and outreach to the university, school districts/other agencies, and profession of school psychology
- Pursue external funding for research, teaching, and service
