The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) kicked off their Corps Community Month on October 1st to raise awareness about primary care careers and the NHSC’s role in bringing primary health care services to communities that need them the most. This year’s theme is Training. Access. Delivery. Health. The American Psychological Association is partnering with the NHSC to increase awareness of NHSC programs and how they support psychologists pursuing primary care careers.

Loan Repayment Opportunities
As a part of NHSC’s commitment to increasing primary care in underserved communities, the NHSC offers a tax-free Loan Repayment Program that gives eligible health care providers the opportunity to have a portion of their loans repaid in exchange for providing health care services in communities that need them the most. Psychologists are encouraged to apply! Visit the NSHC’s Loan Repayment webpage to learn more.
NHSC loan repayment opportunities are offered to primary care providers, including mental and behavioral health clinicians, who commit to serving for at least two years at an NHSC-approved site located in a Health Professional Shortage Area.
Today, more than 9,600 NHSC primary care medical, dental, nursing, and behavioral and mental health practitioners are serving and providing culturally competent care to millions of medically underserved people – more than double the number in 2008.
