About the Role:
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for contributing to the journal’s strategy, maintaining its position in the field, appointing and managing the editorial team, providing leadership and vision, and ensuring the efficient and ethical handling of submitted articles. At least one Senior Associate Editor can be appointed to assist with handling submissions.
The journal publishes papers on diverse aspects of, and approaches to, the science of motivation, including work carried out in all subfields of psychology, cognitive science, economics, sociology, management science, organizational science, neuroscience and political science.
Primarily, Motivation Science features empirical papers, although theoretical papers and reviews of the literature will also be considered.
Potential candidates will hold an advanced degree in social psychology or other field related to motivation research such as industrial and organisation, neuro, health, educational psychology, management, or marketing; have a record of scholarship and editorial experience (e.g., serving as Associate Editors, guest editorships); organizational skills to oversee the editorial process and meet deadlines; and ability to work effectively with others involved in the publication process, including the publisher and journal manager.
The candidate should be a people-oriented networker, with international contacts, and have the ability to attract key scientists as top authors, reviewers, guest editors or editorial board members. Their key task is the acquisition and selection of the best articles that fit the scope of the journal. They are the ambassador for the journal and foster collaboration and teamwork with the Associate Editors, the Editorial Board, the publishing team based at APA as well as the affiliated Society for the Study of Motivation (SSM).
The Editor-in-Chief will be a strategic thinker and contribute to the future directions for the Journal. Candidates will be active scientists with good understanding of related and interdisciplinary areas and have a view of emerging scientific topics.
The Journal offers the opportunity to lead and shape scientific communication in the field of Motivation. The appointment is for a 3 and one-fourth year term, which can be extended.
