The Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, and Counselor Education (CoPE) program area in the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education invites applications for an assistant or associate clinical professor position starting in August 2017. In addition to teaching and other faculty responsibilities, we plan for the individual we hire to help us to establish a departmental training clinic and then to assume the role of director, including coordination of the clinic’s services and provision of clinical supervision, in collaboration with other CoPE faculty.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide instruction and supervision for graduate students in counseling psychology, school psychology, and related disciplines in counseling/psychotherapy and assessment (e.g., teach a masters-level pre-practicum on counseling skills)
  • Collaborate with practicum, and externship instructors in counseling psychology, school psychology, and school counseling
  • Teaching load and departmental service activities would be adjusted as the individual assumes the administrative responsibilities of clinic director
  • Chair the committee to plan and establish a psychological services training clinic in the department
  • Serve as the clinic’s administrative director/coordinator

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate in counseling or school psychology from an APA-accredited program
  • Licensed or license eligible in the state of Maryland by the date of appointment
  • Demonstrated expertise in psychological assessment, report writing, and therapy services
  • Experience in supervising and training doctoral students in psychological assessment and treatment
  • Commitment and ability to prepare students to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in working with children, adolescents, adults, and families (in a clinic or school setting)
  • Ability to train and supervise school psychology and counseling psychology doctoral students
  • Knowledge of the K-12 school context

The Department of Counseling Higher Education, and Special Education offers undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in three broad areas: (a) Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, and Counselor Education; (b) Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Education policy; and (c) Special Education. The Department’s programs have consistently received high national rankings, including theU.S. News top rank in the counseling specialty over the past 17 years. The Department is exploring the possibility of developing a psychological services clinic, which would serve as an on-site training facility for graduate students in the CoPE area and to offer affordable counseling and psychological services to the surrounding community.
