APA’s Board of Professional Affairs (BPA) is pleased to invite nominations for membership on its committee, the Advisory Committee on Colleague Assistance (ACCA). In a continuing effort to broaden representation in APA governance, BPA seeks nominations from a wide variety of sources. Self-nominations are welcomed.

ACCA is an advisory committee to BPA whose mission includes:

  1. Recognizing and investigating the unique occupational vulnerabilities of psychologists and their need for colleague assistance to promote effective coping strategies, wellness, prevention, and the self-care that is ethically required,
  2. Promoting the development and continuation of state-level colleague assistance programs and peer assistance networks,
  3. Developing proper, informed relationships between state ethics committees, boards of examiners, and colleague assistance programs for the benefit of the professional and the public.

Participation in ACCA requires a significant time commitment including one meeting per year in Washington, DC, work on individual projects, and conference calls.

There is are (2) appointments available on ACCA for a three-year term beginning in January 2017.

ACCA will review materials and forward its recommendations to BPA for its review and approval. Nominations of individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas are particularly encouraged: Experience on a licensing board and/or an ethics committee; involvement with training programs in academic or institutional settings; clinical practice in public sector or institutional settings and/or experience of being in recovery or otherwise recognizing a personal need for colleague assistance. BPA and ACCA seek candidates who will enhance the diversity of the advisory committee while also being mindful of the need for varied geographic representation as well.

Candidates are asked to submit the following:

1)   Letter indicating his or her willingness to serve if selected

2) 75-word description of qualifications

3) Current curriculum vita
