While there is evidence of greater acceptance of gender diversity, educators, psychologists, and parents must often address the challenges presented by young children who do not conform to typical gender roles. There is much to learn about young children at odds with prevailing gender identity and expression norms. This special focus of Perspectives on Early Childhood Psychology and Education (PECPE) invites manuscripts that explore young children’s understanding of gender; resilience and risk factors, as well as eventual outcomes of early gender nonconformity. Since outcomes are often influenced by the responses of others, manuscripts can also address adult attitudes and behaviors related to young children who resist or comply with gender norms, and innovative programs and strategies to create healthy and affirming milieus that support nonconforming youngsters. Manuscripts should be original work not currently submitted for publication to other journals. Authors must follow the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Sixth Edition). Manuscripts may not exceed 35 double-spaced pages in length, including the cover page, abstract, references, tables, and figures. Avoid including any identifying author information in the text. Selection of manuscripts is based on blind peer review. Include a cover page with the following information: the title of article, author(s) full name(s), title(s), institution or professional affiliations, and mailing and email address of primary author. The cover page will not be sent to reviewers.
