Position Summary
The Special Education Program at the University of Maryland is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor in the area of early elementary special education (Kindergarten – 3rd grade) with expertise in either (a) mathematics in special education, and/or (b) intensive behavioral interventions. The position is tenure-track and is scheduled to begin August 2018.
We seek a candidate who has an established record of scholarship and experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students. Candidates are expected to have a commitment to guiding the work of undergraduate and graduate students, including working with students and groups from underrepresented backgrounds. Competitive candidates will have a demonstrated record of research and the potential to contribute to the educational mission of the program through teaching and service.
Minimum Qualifications
● An earned doctoral degree in Special Education or a related field
● A record of scholarship related to early elementary special education (Kindergarten – 3rd grade) with expertise in either mathematics in special education, or intensive behavioral interventions
● Record of external funding
● Experience in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses
● Record of research, teaching, and service
Preferences
● Experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students, and contributes to the climate of inclusivity
● Increase the program’s national reputation, research productivity, and grant solicitation
● Experience collaborating with local school districts, and with other faculty on research and program development
● Potential to attract high quality doctoral students
● Potential to prepare teachers who have high levels of competence in working with students from underrepresented backgrounds
