Job Summary

The School of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for one, full-time, tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position beginning August 2019. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic scientist-practitioner, school psychology training program in the School of Psychology, including an APA-accredited and NASP-approved doctoral training program, and an undergraduate psychology major. The School of Psychology has approximately 600 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students across three APA-accredited doctoral programs (Counseling, Clinical, & School).  The School Psychology program emphasizes research mentorship, diversity, and training in evidence-based practices. Doctoral students provide psychological services through an in-house training clinic, including assessment and treatment for community clients. The clinic permits close supervision of school psychologists-in-training by program faculty; we hope to recruit applicants with interest in and ability to provide clinical supervision of practicum students in our in-house training clinic, as well as mentor graduate student research. Opportunities to obtain post-doctoral supervision towards licensure (which includes mentorship, professional development) and/or to conduct and collaborate on research are available.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching a combination of undergraduate and graduate classes per semester including supervision of graduate level practicum courses in our in-house training clinic. Applicants are expected to seek licensure in the state of Mississippi. Other responsibilities include developing and maintaining a strong program of research, seeking extramural funding, directing student research, and school and university service.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree in school psychology and completion of a pre-doctoral internship, both of which are APA-accredited. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to our doctoral school psychology program and should be eligible for licensure. The program is based on the scientist-practitioner model with a strong behavioral orientation.  Research and applied interests are open but should be consistent with a behavioral school psychology approach.
