APA is pleased to announce a pilot program inviting individuals to donate books to children in need: https://www.apa.org/pubs/magination/donate-book.aspx  This effort is part of the APA Publishing mission to strengthen communities by making psychological knowledge accessible to all kids and their families.

The pilot builds on the growing relationship between Magination Press, APA’s children’s book imprint, and Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the largest children’s literacy nonprofit in the United States. For more than 50 years, RIF has been committed to a literate America by providing opportunities for children and their families to experience the life-changing impact of reading. Through partnerships with community organizations, volunteers, corporate partners, and educators, RIF has distributed over 415 million books and impacted the lives of more than 50 million children nationwide.

In summer 2018, RIF selected Magination Press books to form the RIF Social Emotional Learning Collection, designed to enhance both literacy skills and socioemotional engagement of young readers. The collection, which debuted in June 2018, is supported by free literacy resources created by RIF for different reading levels (see this RIF-MP book page for an example) and an interactive Social Emotional Learning calendar.

With this new pilot, each donation made on APA.org will enable RIF to send books from this collection to schools and communities where there is a need for support.  If successful, we hope to expand this donation initiative by teaming up with other organizations that have an established community presence and proven impact. We are excited to test the waters with RIF and hope to expand the book donation program in the months to come.

Meanwhile, we welcome your support for these efforts. Please share with your networks!
