As you know, the Standards of Accreditation for Health Service Psychology (SoA) outline education and training requirements for programs at the doctoral, doctoral internship, and postdoctoral levels. These standards are subject to regular review and revision by the American Psychological Association Commission on Accreditation (APA CoA).
We are putting forward additional Standards for public comment. The Standards are the result of ongoing work by the APA CoA to develop standards for accrediting programs in Clinical, Counseling, and School psychology, along with other developed practice areas, in health service psychology (HSP) at the Master’s degree level. This work started in 2018 after the APA Council approved the pursuit of accreditation in the areas where APA already has an approved scope, notably, Clinical, Counseling, and School psychology.
In accordance with the APA “Policies for Accreditation Governance” and US Department of Education regulations for notice and comment, the APA CoA will make the proposed standards available for a ninety (90) day period of public review and comment. Information about the proposed standards and public comment will be available at apps.apa.org/accredcomment.
The comment period is scheduled to begin on March 17, 2020 and will continue through 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time on June 15, 2020.
