ADHD & LEARNING DIFFERENCES PROGRAM PSYCHOLOGY POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with a strong foundation in interventions research to begin in Summer 2021. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be involved with the NIMH-funded Optimizing ADHD Treatment Engagement Using Technology Study (PI: Melissa Dvorsky). The primary focus of this study is to develop and pilot a technology-enhanced behavioral treatment for adolescents who have ADHD. As part of this grant, we will be conducting focus groups with adolescents, parents, teachers, and school mental health providers, developing an implementation approach for delivery in schools, and conducting a pilot randomized controlled trial of the homework, organization, and time management/planning skills intervention with or without a technology augmentation.

Research responsibilities include conducting diagnostic assessments; supervising research staff; forming and maintaining relationships with school/community stakeholders; data management and processing in REDCap and SPSS. Opportunities for data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing are available and encouraged. The Fellow will have access to multiple large longitudinal and treatment datasets focused on mental health, attention, and behavior in children, adolescents, and emerging adults.

Clinical supervision for licensure will be provided. This postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to provide outpatient clinical care within the Division of Psychology and Behavioral Health in the ADHD & Learning Differences Program, though the fellow will also have opportunities to provide care in other settings at Children’s National Hospital. The fellow will have built-in didactics pertaining to childhood behavioral health and a range of other topics to promote the fellow’s trajectory as an independent clinical psychologist. In addition to involvement in research and clinical care, the fellow will have professional development opportunities pertaining to program development/evaluation, education, research, community engagement, and advocacy in conjunction with the ADHD & Learning Differences Program.

Necessary qualifications include: 1) a PhD in Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, or related field; 2) research experience in the content of clinical research; 3) clinical experience conducting diagnostic interviews; and 4) excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Applicants who have a research or clinical background in ADHD, interventions, and/or school/community-based implementation research will be given strongest consideration. ANXIETY POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

The Anxiety postdoctoral fellowship provides advanced clinical training in child psychology with an emphasis on anxiety.  Clinical work primarily involves diagnostic evaluations and interventions for a wide range of anxiety presentations such as generalized anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, selective mutism, specific phobia, panic disorder, medically-related anxiety and PTSD.  CBT is the main modality with use of other empirically-supported treatments as needed.  Our multidisciplinary clinic offers outpatient services (individual and group treatments) to a diverse population in the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia area.  The fellow will be able to participate in team meetings, collaborate with our psychiatry counterparts and potentially gain supervision experience with psychology externs.  The Anxiety fellow will also have opportunities to gain clinical and/or research exposure in other areas of general child clinical or pediatric psychology, if interested.  Didactics are an important component of the fellowship program and will focus on topics related to anxiety, general clinical child psychology and professional development.

EARLY CHILDHOOD BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

The goal of this postdoctoral fellowship is to support an integrative early childhood-focused training experience across clinical, research, teaching, and advocacy domains and to promote the fellow’s trajectory as an independent clinical psychologist. We have a firm commitment to training within a health equity, social justice framework that promotes an understanding of how sociocultural factors impact child, family, and community functioning and strengthens the fellow’s advocacy skills. Clinical training will focus on providing outpatient clinical care within the Division of Psychology and Behavioral Health in the Early Childhood Behavioral Health Program, though the fellow will also have opportunities to provide consultation within primary care settings. The fellow will receive training in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), with opportunities to become a PCIT-certified therapist (or L1 Trainer for those who are PCIT-certified), and exposure to Healthy Steps, Child Parent Psychotherapy, and  Applied Behavior Analysis informed treatment. The bulk of clinical training will focus on outpatient prevention and intervention, but the fellow would also have the opportunity to provide young child assessments. The fellow will gain experience working with children experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, including internalizing problems, externalizing problems, and autism spectrum disorders. In addition to clinical care, the fellow will have professional development opportunities pertaining to program development/evaluation, education, research, and advocacy in conjunction with the Child Health Advocacy Institute. The fellow will have built-in didactics pertaining to early childhood behavioral health and a range of other topics relevant to clinical psychologists.

TWO POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES IN WHOLE BEAR CARE PEDIATRIC PRIMARY CARE

Whole Bear Care: Primary Care Behavioral Health Services at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship position in Bilingual (Spanish-English) Pediatric Primary Care psychology for 2021-2022.

Primary Care Behavioral Health Services at Children’s National is an outpatient integrated care program. The Psychology team works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide behavioral health consultation within the primary care setting. The postdoctoral fellow would be placed in a primary care clinic that provides health and behavioral health services to the Latinx and Spanish speaking community in the DC metro area. Direct services, in English and/or Spanish, are provided to children, adolescents and families. Consultations for patients include initial assessment, service referrals, and follow-up to help ensure linkage to behavioral health care. Consultation is also provided to the medical care teams. Brief patient intervention work will also be required. Exposure to concerns related to immigration, immigration status, legal aid, family separation/reunification, and acculturation are commonly seen. Supervision with bilingual, bicultural psychologist will focus on developing skills serving the Latinx population and language development.  Opportunity to supervise psychology trainees is available. The fellowship is a one-year full-time position, with some flexibility on the start date.

Clinical hours and supervision for licensure will be provided. Candidates with experience working in a primary care setting and/or with a multi-disciplinary team, clinical experience working with children and adolescents from diverse backgrounds, and bilingual (English-Spanish) candidates are encouraged to apply.
