William James College, located in Newton, MA, just west of Boston, is seeking an Adjunct faculty member to teach Preventive Mental Health in Schools in the School Psychology MA/CAGS Programs for Summer I 2022. The course is in-person and will meet 12 times, *Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm from 5/16 through 6/27.

Evidence-based practice, positive behavioral interventions, and supports, and school-community partnerships are major topics. Some objectives of the course include: teaching students how to evaluate prevention programs, i.e., to explain differences between degrees of evidence; identifying the parallels and distinctions between School-wide Positive Behavior Supports (SW-PBS), Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and other school-wide models of service delivery; locating culturally relevant prevention programs or appropriately adapt evidence-based programs so that curricula or programs address the specific needs of diverse (cultural) groups and ‘fit‘ the local school population and the local community; applying relevant principles and criteria in identifying specific prevention programs and curricula for use in a school setting to address mental health concerns and determine the ‘ecological fit’ given the school and community culture. The syllabus for this course has already been developed.

The candidate will have to be available during the times listed above. *There may be some flexibility in timing, but not days of the week.
