The Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education at Michigan State University is excited to announce a full-time, non-tenure track position within the School Psychology program area. The selected individual will serve as the Director of Clinical Training within the School Psychology program and teach undergraduate courses in psychological adjustment and developmental psychology. The MSU School Psychology program includes a robust group of 7 full-time, tenure-track and 1 full-time clinical faculty members. Programs include the APA-accredited doctoral program and NASP-approved EdS program, recently awarded a $1.2 million grant from the Department of Education. This is a full-time, 12-month position with the strong possibility for renewal. For more information about the School Psychology program see: https://education.msu.edu/cepse/school-psychology/.

The primary responsibilities of the individual will include:

  • Directing clinical training within the School Psychology program. The DCT oversees doctoral internship preparation and the associated course sequence, with mentoring and teaching responsibilities across the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The DCT also serves as the primary contact person within the program for the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) internship program. Additionally, this position includes building and maintaining relationships with on-site supervisors, securing practicum placements, and collaborating with school psychology faculty in graduate clinical training.
  • Maintaining a teaching load of approximately 5-7 courses per year (2-4 courses per semester in fall and spring, on average). Current needs include undergraduate instruction in theories and issues in psychological adjustment and individual and group dynamics and doctoral instruction in cognitive and social development.
  • Opportunities for graduate instruction within the School Psychology EdS and PhD programs are likely in future years (e.g., Biological Bases of Behavior, Multicultural Practice in Mental Health).
  • Assist with data collection for accreditation (i.e., APA and APPIC).
  • Providing mentorship to students, engaging in service to the school psychology programs, the CEPSE department and College of Education, and larger community and profession.

Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in assessment, prevention and intervention, and collaboration and consultation within and outside of schools. Attention to detail and strong time management skills are a must. Candidates must have experience mentoring students and either have completed the APPIC process themselves or advised students through the APPIC process.
