The Department of Human Services in the School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a faculty position in our APA-accredited Combined Doctoral Program in Clinical and School Psychology. This is a tenure-eligible position that will be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The individual in this position will: sustain a line of programmatic research (with potential for external funding) focused on developing, implementing and/or evaluating school-based interventions which seek to address academic, social-emotional, or mental health inequities occurring in school settings that serve diverse and/or marginalized youth; publish research results in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and other similar outlets; teach undergraduate and graduate courses and include students in their research lab; and make appropriate service contributions to the program, school and profession.

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an APA-accredited and/or NASP-approved program with a specialization in School Psychology
  • An emerging or established program of research focused on developing, implementing and/or evaluating school-based interventions which seek to address academic, social-emotional, or mental health inequities occurring in school settings
  • Demonstrated ability or promise to produce significant research to include publication in refereed journals and potential for extramural funding
  • Demonstrated ability or promise for teaching excellence
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion into teaching, research, and service activities.

Appointment at the Associate Professor level requires evidence of a research program with a track record of demonstrated success in publications in top journals appropriate to the discipline and efforts to obtain sponsored support.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Evidence of pursuing a research focus that complements existing program faculty expertise (e.g., academic interventions; school-family or school-community coordination; mental health; other behavioral/psychological interventions) as well as holding, or being eligible for, the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential and licensure as a psychologist by the Virginia Board of Psychology.
  • Experience or motivation to engage in collaborative, multidisciplinary research
  • Experience as a practicing school psychologist; and an ecological, strengths-based approach to conceptualizing development of diverse youth.
