PI Joni W. Splett, Ph.D. (University of Florida), and Co-PI Colleen Halliday, Ph.D. (Medical University of South Carolina) are looking for a motivated and experienced team member to fill a postdoctoral fellowship position on research newly funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. This multi-site randomized trial is funded for 5 years to compare effectiveness of universal mental health screening in 20 diverse elementary schools to equity focused mental health screening in 20 elementary schools for increasing African American/Black students’ intervention receipt and reducing their disciplinary encounters. The ideal candidate will have experience engaging African American/Black families, school personnel, and/or community stakeholders; and implementing school mental health research studies, and/or other school-based or racial disparities research with children and youth. The Postdoctoral fellow will co-lead execution of the study. Multiple roles and responsibilities are possible for the position depending on the expertise and interests of the candidate filling the position and needs of the project. These may include facilitating school team trainings; data collection, coding, and management; monitoring fidelity measures and implementation outcomes; patient and stakeholder engagement with established community advisory board and site-specific patient/stakeholder advisory boards; and teacher and student engagement as directed by funding agency; recruiting and supervising graduate and undergraduate students and staff. The fellow will also have the opportunity to publish manuscripts and disseminate research from project data and other data sets as interested. The position can be designed to prepare fellows for licensure in psychology and pursuit of position in academia, and may include limited roles and responsibilities on other extramurally funded projects as needed.
Candidates should have a doctorate in clinical, educational, or developmental psychology, school psychology, education, public health, or related discipline by the position start date. Candidates with experience in academic-community partnerships, school mental health research, and/or health disparities research with children and families are especially encouraged to apply. The projected start date for these positions is June or July of 2022. Appointment is for one year with additional years possible based on review of the fellow’s progress. The current stipend for first year is commensurate with experience and may exceed the standard National Institutes of Health rate and includes eligibility for benefits.
