The Division of Education at Mississippi State University (MSU) – Meridian is excited to announce an opening for a non-tenure-track assistant or associate teaching professor of school psychology. We are expanding our CAEP/NASP approved School Psychology program to the Meridian campus by adding the Educational Specialist degree in school psychology. We are accepting applications for a full-time teaching position.

The main campus for MSU is located in Starkville, Mississippi, as part of the Southeastern Conference (https://www.msstate.edu/ about/starkville) and houses a student body of approximately 22,000 students. MSU holds status as a Research 1 University from the influential Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education for “very high research activity.”

MSU-Meridian is an extended campus for MSU that strategically extends its resources and expertise throughout its service area for the benefit of citizens, offering access for working and place-bound adult learners through convenient course offerings. The Division of Education has a distinguished record of service to our community, our state, and our nation with faculty who have been recognized nationally and internationally. With undergraduate and graduate degree offerings on campus and synchronous online, we are well equipped to meet a vast array of academic needs for both entry level and seasoned professionals. The Division of Education houses programs in traditional P-12 education, such as elementary education and secondary education, school counseling, teacher leadership, and school administration.  Additionally, we offer counseling and community college education programs and emphasize areas in the Bachelor of Applied Science and Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies to help meet the needs of the community!

The School Psychology Program at MSU-Meridian is a part of the MSU Integrated Mental Health Care Program, which is a collaboration among the counseling, behavior analysis, psychology, and physician assistant programs to train highly qualified clinical practitioners to provide mental health services within the local schools, medical centers, and community agencies. The School Psychology Program at MSU-Meridian offers an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Education with a concentration in School Psychology that allows for the practice of school psychology in the PreK-12 settings. The School Psychology Program also offers a unique advanced certificate program geared towards the re-specialization and re-training of psychometrists, school counselors and special education teachers to become state licensed school psychologists.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses;
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Participate in service, outreach, and leadership activities at the department, university, and professional organization levels;
  • Supervise field-based experience in the schools and clinical settings;
  • Adhere to the scientist-practitioner model with a strong emphasis on training in the utilization of empirically based assessment, intervention, and consultation methods; and
  • Aid students in the program as they seek to obtain an Educational Specialist degree.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in school psychology or educational psychology with an emphasis in school psychology or a closely related field;
  • Eligible for licensure as a school psychologist in Mississippi and/or eligible for national certification as a school psychologist;
  • ABD’s will be considered if the degree is completed by August 15, 2023; and
  • Demonstration of excellence in teaching and/or service (Associate Teaching Professor, only); or
  • Demonstration of potential excellence in teaching and/or service (Assistant Teaching Professor, only).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned a doctoral degree from a recognized school psychology program approved by NASP and/or accredited by APA;
  • Eligible for BCBA certification;
  • Experience with NASP approval process;
  • Minimum of 3 years working as a school psychologist;
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level; and
  • Experience with teaching virtually or online.
