The Department of Psychology in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of School Psychology beginning August 2023. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching graduate courses in the School Psychology Program and undergraduate courses in psychology as well as conducting research, and providing service to the university and community. The School Psychology Program is housed within the Psychology Department, grants the Education Specialist degree, is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), and is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach graduate courses in school psychology as well as undergraduate courses in psychology. Graduate courses may include teaching models of assessment within multi-tiered systems of support, diversity and equity in schools, and the professional and ethical foundations of school psychology. The position will also include supervision of practicum and internship placements and related research projects.  We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate a commitment to socially just practices that promote equitable, educational outcomes for children. In addition, the Program has a strong applied base and a substantial collaboration with local school districts that the successful candidate will be expected to nurture and grow. The position requires a demonstrated record or evident potential to maintain a strong program of research in school psychology and to involve students in research. The ability to secure extramural funding is desirable. We have a number of graduate assistants available to support instruction and research efforts, an excellent university Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and start-up funding is negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in School Psychology
  • Eligibility for National Certification as a School Psychologist (NCSP) and licensure in Wisconsin

  • Clear evidence of scholarly potential, including maintaining a strong program of research that involves students in meaningful ways

Candidates who are ABD may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2023; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2024 in advance of their first scheduled review. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-time teaching responsibilities may include graduate courses in school psychology including academic and intellectual assessment, professional and ethical foundations of school psychology, diversity and equity in schools; and an undergraduate course in psychology. Responsibilities will also include supervision of practicum and internship placements and related research projects. Research expectations include maintaining an active program of research in school psychology with opportunities for student involvement. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in professional organizations at the state or national level. This position includes administrative duties in the School Psychology Program with active involvement and leadership on program committees including curriculum, admissions, student progress and portfolios, and student advisory. With the support of a subgrant award from the WI Department of Public Instruction, the Program is expanding to extend program access to individuals who are geographically restricted and unable to participate in classes in person. To include remote students, faculty will be required to teach in a synchronous, hyflex format.
