The Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations at the University of Iowa invites applications for an open rank clinical track faculty position in the School Psychology program (APA-seeking doctoral and new EdS programs). The faculty member will make valuable contributions to a Department of Education-funded grant, “Multidisciplinary Pathways to Recruit, Train, and Retrain Mental Health Providers in Iowa (MPATH)” and to the development of the Ed.S. program in School Psychology at the University of Iowa.

Description  

This is a full-time academic-year (9 month) clinical track faculty position with an initial three-year appointment beginning August 16, 2023 with possibility of renewal. The clinical track at the University of Iowa has a career progression that includes promotion (assistant, associate, full professor). The College of Education provides support for clinical faculty in professional development, conference travel, and scholarship related to clinical faculty members’ areas of work. Clinical faculty are expected to teach the equivalent of 3-4 courses per semester and engage in other program-related responsibilities such as curriculum development and student advising. We are seeking an individual with interests and experiences related to school psychology.

In response to Iowa’s critical need for school psychologists, the UI School Psychology program is expanding and increasing student enrollment and development of a standalone Ed.S. program. An additional licensed/credentialed faculty member is needed to support expanded supervision and teaching requirements. The new faculty member will also work with the MPATH Co-Project Directors on recruitment, retention, and training efforts. This individual will provide supervision of the School Psychology practicum and internship students.

Education Requirement

An educational specialist (EdS) degree or equivalent in School Psychology is required. Doctorate in School Psychology is preferred.  Applicants who are ABD in an accredited School Psychology program will be considered.

Required Qualifications

(1) Ability to work collaboratively and with diverse populations, (2) Ability to teach, co-advise, and mentor graduate students in practice, (3) Licensed or eligible/credentialed for licensure as a school psychologist in Iowa, (4) Knowledge of school psychology and school systems, (5) Familiarity with psychoeducational assessments as well as ethical and legal mandates related to the practice of school psychology, (6) Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications

(1) Established record of scholarship and intervention to address mental health issues (broadly defined) in schools, (2) National certification as a school psychologist (NCSP), (3) Experience working in the K-12 school setting. (4) Knowledge of gifted education and/or twice exceptionality in the K-12 school setting, (5) Ability to mentor graduate students in research, (6) Earned doctoral degree in school psychology from an APA-accredited program.

Responsibilities

Major responsibilities include teaching graduate-level courses in school psychology consistent with program and departmental needs; advising and mentoring graduate students in the School Psychology program; providing program, department, college, and professional service, and working with current program faculty and University of Iowa distance and online education program to develop courses and experiences for online instruction. The successful candidate will work in full collaboration with faculty members in School Psychology, College of Education departments, and with partners in School Counseling, the School of Social Work, the College of Public Health, and partner Area Education Agencies (AEAs).

About the School Psychology Program

The School Psychology program is housed in the Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations at the The University of Iowa and offers the PhD and EdS degrees. The program is seeking APA accreditation for the doctoral program; APA accepted the program’s application for Intent to Apply and is on schedule to submit the program’s self-study in 2023. The university is making a significant investment in growing the program through additional faculty hires and a renewed commitment to addressing critical needs in schools including the addition of new grants such as the MPath grant, which aims to increase the number of mental health service providers in schools and a new grant funded Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) program. The School Psychology program has a long history of excellence in preparing school psychologists for practice as health service psychologists in multiple settings including academia.  We are seeking to expand on our existing partnerships with schools, the Iowa State Department of Education, research units within the College of Education, and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to address school mental health and other critical issues within school psychology.
