Applications are invited for a research associate position under the direction of Sarah Kate Bearman, Ph.D. in the Laboratory for Leveraging Evidence and Advancing Practice for Youth Mental Health (LEAP Lab) at UT Austin.

Activities will include assisting with coordination and data collection of three research studies that focus on the implementation of effective mental health interventions for youth and families; oversight of undergraduate research assistants; help with lab communication and assisting with manuscript and grant preparation.  All projects are based in the LEAP Lab and will involve working on a team with postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate volunteers. Some travel and driving will be required. Opportunities to present research at scholarly conferences and participate in manuscript writing are available.

This position is funded for 1 year with the possibility for renewal based on receipt of continued funding and satisfactory performance.

Purpose

Dr. Sarah Kate Bearman needs a full-time Research Associate to fulfill the scope of work for three external sponsored research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and retention for a study of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children and their families attending Title-1 elementary schools in South Texas, including assessment administration, tracking, and follow-up.
  • Coordination with personnel in partnering community clinics for a randomized clinical trial testing a principle-guided psychotherapy [the FIRST program, Weisz & Bearman 2020] for children and adolescents. The intervention addresses anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, post- traumatic stress, and conduct-related problems and disorders.
  • Assist with the development and testing of a mental health literacy program in public middle schools.
  • For all three projects, responsibilities include data entry and cleaning, assisting with IRB and grants proposal, literature searches and manuscript preparation, and Lab administrative duties (scheduling, website management).
