The growing Department of Pediatric Psychology at CHOC Children’s Hospital in Orange County, California is pleased to announce the availability of a School-Based Mental Health/Pediatric Psychology faculty position (pending funding).  The position will focus primarily on collaborating with local school teams to implement evidence-based and culturally relevant programming, trainings, and interventions ranging from prevention and early intervention through group treatment within schools. This position will also involve the opportunity to work in WellSpaces (physical spaces in schools designed to promote an environment centered on social, emotional, and mental well-being and being built across our county at all middle and high schools) aa joint venture between CHOC and Orange County Department of Education.  The successful applicant for this position will work with a CHOC interdisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, pediatricians, and educators.  Secondarily, the position will involve limited clinical services evaluating and treating mental health symptoms in children and adolescents with chronic medical conditions in a short-term therapy clinic. Experience and interest in providing school based mental health services as well as clinical care in a multidisciplinary medical setting is preferred.

CHOC Children’s has a well-established training program, and the position will include the opportunity to participate in supervision and teaching within our APA accredited doctoral internship, as well as our postdoctoral fellowship and pre-doctoral practicum programs. There are opportunities for conducting research depending on the successful applicant’s interests.

CHOC Children’s has been expanding its mental health services and programming over the past 5 years and our system of care now includes inpatient psychiatric services, intensive outpatient services and innovative pediatric mental health programming. The program is well integrated within the hospital and offers opportunities for collaboration across all disciplines.

Completion of an APA-accredited doctoral program (clinical, counseling, or school) and an APA accredited internship are required.  Applicants must also have experience working with children and adolescents.  Candidates who have completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology and/or have integrative primary care experience are strongly preferred.  Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish are also preferred.
