Dear Colleagues,

As the policy landscape continues to evolve, we remain committed to keeping you informed about the association’s actions in response to developments impacting both our organization and the broader field. We encourage you to share this information with your networks to help amplify its reach.

Here are a few recent examples:

Fighting for Academic Freedom. Late last night, APA joined hundreds of colleges, universities and scholarly societies in signing a statement from the American Association of Colleges and Universities underscoring the importance of academic freedom and scientific integrity. We remain committed to ensuring that institutions of higher learning are centers of open inquiry that pursue truth and support the free exchange of ideas and opinions across a full range of viewpoints.

Fighting for Scientific Research. Earlier today, APA spoke out about cuts to NSF funding that both directly impact the work of our members and hamper society’s ability to make collective progress on complex issues, like combatting misinformation and addressing health disparities. We continue to share resources that illustrate the importance of research on diverse populations for optimal health outcomes and that help the public identify and protect themselves against mis- and disinformation.

Fighting for People. As part of Autism Awareness Month and in response to concerning comments by HHS Secretary Robert Kennedy, we have elevated the science around autism using multiple touchpoints. From disseminating APA resources to help educate the public, to helping reporters communicate accurate information, to equipping members with things they can do, we will continue to push for policies and research priorities that champion neurodiversity and ensure accessible, inclusive, and effective services and supports.

These examples illustrate the breadth of issues we find ourselves addressing and the many ways they can affect our association, our field, and our communities. We will continue to be vigilant and monitor issues as they emerge, like the administration’s executive order on accreditation. We remain steadfast and committed to supporting our members, grounded in our values, and focused on our mission to advance psychological science and knowledge to improve the human condition.
