University of Colorado Boulder’s Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS) has announced an opening for the Director of its Prevention Science Program. The position offers the opportunity to direct an established, interdisciplinary program of researchers working across the prevention science spectrum—from fundamental research through community implementation. Our collaborative culture brings together faculty from sociology, psychology, public health, criminology, and related fields in meaningful interdisciplinary work. This is a tenured faculty appointment (at the rank of associate or full professor) with an academic home in either the Department of Sociology or the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience.

The Director will shape the Prevention Science Program’s strategic vision, join IBS’s executive leadership team, and work with colleagues who have been remarkably successful at securing major funding, collecting important data, and translating research into evidence-based programs that are implemented in schools and communities nationwide. Currently, the Prevention Science Program houses the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence, the Center for Resilience + Wellbeing, Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development, LifeSkills Training Implementation, and the (soon-to-be-established) Center on Crime and Justice.

CU Boulder is a leading R1 institution with exceptional research infrastructure and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. Boulder offers an outstanding quality of life with unparalleled outdoor recreation, a thriving cultural and tech scene, and excellent schools.

The application process opens soon, with review beginning as early as September 19, 2025. Find the full position announcement here.
