Division 16 is excited to share an opportunity for members to contribute to Engaging Psychology’s Future, a 2025 American Psychological Association (APA) Presidential Initiative led by APA President Dr. Debra Kawahara. This initiative aims to attract high school and community college students to the many dynamic fields within psychology by facilitating meaningful conversations with professionals who can inspire the next generation.

Through the initiative’s Psyched for Success events, students engage in discussions that highlight how psychology addresses real-world issues such as social media, stress, and social inequality. The goal is to host at least one event in every state and U.S. territory by the end of 2025.

Division 16 members—many of whom work directly with schools and high school students—are natural leaders for bringing these events to life. Members are encouraged to consider organizing an event this fall to showcase the relevance and diversity of careers in psychology.

Psyched for Success Guide with event guidelines and an application for modest funding (to assist with items such as refreshments) is available on the initiative’s website: Engaging Psychology’s Future.

Members with questions or interest in getting involved are welcome to reach out to initiative chairs Kathryn Anderson epfuture25@gmail.com or Jaye Van Kirk jvankirk@sdccd.edu for more information.

Let’s make sure school psychology has a strong presence in this important national initiative!
