The Department of Health Studies & Applied Educational Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University is recruiting a Professor (Open Rank, Tenured/Tenure-Track) who conducts applied, literacy research with an emphasis in reading. The candidate should have an established line of research that examines reading development and empirically driven interventions at the child, classroom, or school levels. We are especially interested in scholars with a proven track record of federal grant funding, the development of mutually beneficial school-university partnerships, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The position will be situated within special education or school psychology.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the ongoing work to:
- Strengthen community-based partnerships with the New York City Public Schools, including training educators to implement best practices informed by literacy inquiry and reading research to support diverse learners.
- Should be dedicated to promoting inclusion and multicultural competence. We welcome candidates from a variety of professional backgrounds, identities, and professional experiences to add their talent to our excellent and impactful academic community.
- Design and innovate coursework in reading development, assessment, and intervention for students across the Applied Educational Psychology cluster (i.e., School Psychology, Special Education, and the Advanced Certificate in Literacy).
The Health Studies and Applied Educational Psychology Department prepares researchers and practitioners who apply a social-ecological lens to the study of evidence-based practices to improve learning, social-emotional, and health outcomes of students and their families. The work of the Applied Educational Psychology faculty promotes academic and social-emotional success and aims to systematize and increase access to evidence-based practices in general education and special education contexts as well as with families and in community contexts.
