The Department of Psychological, Health, and Learning Sciences (PHLS) in the College of Education at the University of Houston seeks to fill a promotion-eligible (non-tenure track) Clinical Assistant Professor position to serve as the Training Director for our School and Counseling Ph.D. programs. The department offers a variety of graduate
academic programs in multiple areas of specialization, including a master’s in counseling and three PhD programs including school psychology (APA accredited), counseling psychology (APA accredited), and measurement, quantitative methods, and learning sciences (MQMLS). All our programs have a special focus on student success, social justice, health, innovative research, and community engagement. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience with training doctoral students in APA-accredited programs.
Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of this position will be supporting the training mission of the APA-accredited programs in the PHLS department, with an emphasis on teaching and administration. The programs are fortunate to have an excellent network of community- based practicum and internship programs. The Training Director will develop and maintain high- quality practicum experiences with community partners including schools, hospitals, clinics, and other community-based training sites. The training director will also contribute to the teaching mission of the programs, including teaching practicum and other classes that support the development of scientist-practitioners who provide evidence-based services. Furthermore, the Training Director will work with the respective Program Directors to complete program evaluations and maintain accreditation, facilitate internship applications and support for interns, and help address students’ clinical issues.
Appointment: This is a nine-month appointment. Review of candidates will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience and will include benefits.
