The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School (DMS) and Dell Children’s Medical Center (DCMC) is excited to announce a late breaking opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Child Clinical and Adolescent Psychology. This fellowship provides advanced, specialized training in evidence‑based psychological assessment and intervention for children, adolescents, and their families. Approximately 50% of the fellowship is dedicated to treatment and intervention within an outpatient clinical setting, while the remaining 50% focuses on telepsychology services delivered within a school‑based system, providing experience across both traditional outpatient care and population‑focused systems‑level service delivery.

Fellows provide outpatient psychological services to a diverse pediatric population presenting with behavioral, learning, thought, and anxiety/mood disorders. Clinical responsibilities include individual and group outpatient psychotherapy, as well as consultation and collaboration with medical and behavioral health providers. Individual therapy caseloads are tailored to fellows’ clinical interests, prior training, and professional goals. Fellows may also have opportunities to pursue certification and advanced training in Trauma‑Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF‑CBT), Parent‑Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and/or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

Fellows conduct school‑based clinical services through the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) program, carrying a caseload of school‑referred youth and working alongside a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed therapists, social workers, school staff  and care coordinators. This experience provides hands‑on exposure to the unique clinical and systemic needs of school‑based populations, with clinical work ranging from short‑term intervention to more specialized care for concerns such as trauma, anxiety, and substance use. Fellows receive targeted training and mentorship in evidence‑based interventions, with opportunities to apply these skills in telehealth and community‑based settings.

Philosophy and Training

The Fellowship is organized so that training activities are provided within a programmatic structure that will satisfy all the clinical, supervisory, and educational requirements necessary to achieve license eligibility upon completion. Emphasis is placed on achieving independence across the 9 profession-wide competencies outlined by the American Psychological Association’s Commission on Accreditation, while also providing more depth of training for fellows to develop emerging expertise within their primary areas of clinical concentration. Specific to the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology, the Fellowship Program aims to prepare trainees for licensure. Fellows are expected to have passed the EPPP by the end of their training year.

Fellows are also encouraged to engage in clinical supervision, teaching, and scholarly productivity, as available; engaging them in a role that emulates their next career steps within healthcare settings. Fellows are expected to lead at least two psychology seminars for the APPIC accredited internship class during the year. They are also invited to teach short-courses in evidence-based interventions to first- and second-year psychiatry fellows throughout the year. Fellows are encouraged to develop small quality improvement projects, pilot research studies, and/or educational curricula during their training year, which they can present within a department sponsored research day occurring 8-9 months into the academic year.

Salary and Benefits

Fellows are employees of the University of Texas at Austin, Dell Medical School and thus receive the benefits provided for all full-time staff. The Psychology Fellowship is housed within the Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, but trainees receive appointments for their primary field placement designated by the title “Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow” at Dell Children’s Medical Center and its associated partner programs. The fellowship start date is September 1st and the base salary is $61,008. The start date for these positions is contingent upon final approval by the Board of Regents at the University of Texas and upon completion of the credentialing process and the specific assignment is for one year, ending on August 31st.
