We wanted to share the message below from APA President, Dr. Wendy Williams, regarding the recommendation from the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) to suspend APA Commission on Accreditation’s (CoA) federal recognition. The email from Dr. Williams provides links to communications that have recently been sent out to students and programs, as well as the Commission on Accreditation’s recent statement. We are concerned about the potential impact on school psychology programs, graduate students, and the students and schools we serve, and will share updates as they are provided.

Best,

Julia Ogg (Division 16 President) and Division 16 APA Council Representatives Jennifer Cooper, Tammy Hughes, and Linda Reddy

Dear Council colleagues,

I am writing to share some updates on the recommendation by the National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) to suspend APA Commission on Accreditation’s (CoA) federal recognition for 12 months. As a reminder, the recommendation is subject to action by the Department of Education.

Today, CoA released a letter to programs that contains more detail, as well as a letter to students. They are sharing those out to their lists, and I am sure would welcome you doing the same.

As you know, CoA has independent authority over accreditation matters and is responsible for communicating its response and next steps. We know Council members want timely information, and we will share updates with you as CoA makes them available. We also encourage you to visit their website for additional information, including their statement.

I know this news has been deeply shocking and unsettling. Thank you for the care and commitment you continue to bring to our profession, especially as we consider the impact on our colleagues in academic programs and the students who are understandably concerned about the uncertainty this decision brings. I am grateful for your thoughtfulness, leadership, and continued care for our community.

Appreciatively,

wsw
