HealthSource of Ohio is now accepting applications for two positions in our Doctoral Internship in Psychology. HealthSource of Ohio (HSO) is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) serving the greater Cincinnati area. Our internship prepares psychologists to work effectively in primary care and community health using the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model. Applicants do not need extensive prior primary care experience; we welcome trainees who have either relevant experience or a strong interest in developing a career in primary care and integrated behavioral health.

We also want to stress that school psychology trainees can thrive in these roles. Our internship director, Dr. Kane Carlock, and one of the interns in our inaugural cohort both came from school psychology backgrounds. Doctoral students from APA-accredited school psychology programs are encouraged to apply, particularly those interested in applying their behavioral, developmental, consultation, and systems-based training in healthcare settings.

Our doctoral internship is APA-accredited through the NPTC Great Lakes Region. A major part of the internship is a structured training curriculum in contextual behavioral science, including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), functional assessment and behavior analysis, motivational interviewing, and relational approaches, all within a single-session therapy mindset. Rather than learning a separate protocol for every problem, interns learn to understand what is happening in context, identify what is keeping a pattern going, and be intentional about what may be useful in the moment. The goal is to be able to walk into almost any primary care visit with a useful framework for helping, whether it involves pediatric behavior concerns, trauma, chronic pain, eating concerns, relationship problems, or diabetes.
