On December 9th, 2016 Division 16 held a special webinar entitled “Family-School Partnerships: Evidence-Based Foundations and an Exemplar for Practice.” The event featured Susan Sheridan (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) and Amanda Witte (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), and was moderated by Stacy-Ann January (University of South Carolina). The event was free to members and non-members alike, though only Division 16 members will be eligible for CE credits. A full recording may be found below, and linked here. About the Event:

Family-school partnerships are increasingly recognized as essential for promoting students’ educational success and social-emotional health. School psychologists and other providers are uniquely positioned to support the development of relationships and partnerships between families and schools. This webinar will provide a research-based presentation on family-school partnerships, with emphasis on their empirical support, integration into school-based services, and structural and relational elements. One partnership intervention with extensive empirical support (i.e., conjoint behavioral consultation, now also known as “Teachers and Parents as Partners” or TAPP) will be presented with information on the availability of specialized training and certification.

Upon participation in and completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Define family-school partnerships and their distinction from other forms of parent involvement in education.
  2. Explain some empirical findings from studies evaluating the efficacy of family-school partnerships on student outcomes.
  3. Discuss a multi-tiered framework for partnering with families, including universal and individualized approaches.
  4. Describe an evidence-based family-school partnership intervention known traditionally as conjoint behavioral consultation (now also known as “Teachers and Parents as Partners” or TAPP).
